Conversion through name change

GeneralPosted by Thinker 2008-06-26 11:01
I was reminded of a previous colleague today - he needed to convert some 100's of TIFF images to the JPEG format. He did this by changing the extension of the file names.

The lesson today is: When telling people to upload images in PNG format, make sure they are not just nodding but actually understand what an image format is and how to save images in that format.

Fortunately we only wasted an hour at work spotting this flaw...

Wherever he is, he's still worth a smile

Matt Harding has done it again. The Tokyo section and one of the Indian sections especially made me laugh. Genuinely uplifting. Thank you Stride smiley

There’s only one way to be right, but there are infinite ways to be wrong

Another post about doomcriers. Remember, the world ends in AD 44, sorry, 950, no?, 1000, then what about 1914?, really? then 1918, ah, I meant 1920, or perhaps 1925, now I am pretty sure about 1941, ok, then 1975, I said 1994, that was a typo, it was 1999, well we all know about 2000, so I am definitely sure about 2012. See this for an exhaustive list...

If this is true

GeneralPosted by Thinker 2008-06-16 10:55
If this article, referring to increase in tax payments by high income families, when lowering the tax rates (sorry, in Danish), is true, I can only suggest lowering the tax rates.

Everywhere progressive tax rates are shown slowing down the economic development. If it also slows down tax payments there is no reason left to keep them.

This is the web

I think this is the quote to explain how communication has changed since the World Wide Web was introduced:

When the people can talk with, about, and around you, screwing them is no longer a valid business strategy.

Online games

GamesPosted by Thinker 2008-05-09 10:45
In case anyone has missed it, one of the big areas in tremendous growth is online games. Not just games like WoW, but also simple, small and free games. Here's a few links to some I enjoy:

Proximity, a Go! clone.
Dino Run, run like a dinosaur escaping extintion ;-)
Chronotron, probably one of the most innovative puzzle games of today.
The Last Stand 2, a zombie shooter. The original is very good as well.
Nanotube, simple and demanding on your reflexes
Boxhead - The Zombie Wars, another installment of a different kind of zombie shooter. This version has the options of placing fixed guns. The previous versions of Boxhead are good as well.

I'm having a bit of trouble with it. The post "Bumblebees" had to be deleted and reinserted for my edit to work...
